Mary and Daniel’s engagement photography in Virginia took place at the Omni Homestead Resort. It was a beautiful venue in Hot Springs, Virginia, and a perfect place to take some photos of these two wonderful people! Their small, and intimate wedding will also be at the same venue, but at the Shooting Club which boasts wooded fields nestled into the mountains creating a truly gorgeous backdrop for such a special occasion!
Good Friends and Good Times
Mary and Daniel have both been friends of mine for a while, in fact, I used to watch over Daniel and his brother after school when they were younger! Mary and I connected through one of the bridal stores that I used to work for, and have kept up with each other! Now, we get to take their engagement photos and soon their wedding photos!
Mary and Daniel first met at the Backcountry bar in Harrisonburg when Daniel introduced himself. He asked her if he could buy her a drink, and she refused, but after that meeting they started to see each other everywhere they went!
After a month of periodic Snapchat messages they discovered that they lived close to each other, and he asked if she would like to meet his new pup. She countered by asking him to drinks with some of her friends and he brought his dog – Gunner, and after a fun night at the bar the rest is history!
Engagement Photography in Virginia at the Main Resort
We took advantage of the warm and sunny day to snap some amazing photos at the main resort! This engagement photography in Virginia doubled as a good trial run for the wedding. I got to play around with the sunlight so I could time the ceremony properly.
The session started with Mary showing me around the resort grounds and the locations that they both liked best so that we could get some pictures at each spot. Afterwards both Mary and Daniel changed into their first outfits, the more casual of the two.
The photos began in an area with a pond, and when we asked Daniel to pull over one of the stone benches he lost his grip and sat down hard! Fortunately he was okay and Mary and I got a chuckle or two out of it to start the session!
The Second Outfits and the Shooting Club
We moved the pictures to the Casino lawn, a popular wedding venue within the resort, with a beautiful flower-covered arbor where the bride walks down the aisle. After a few photos under the arbor we moved inside so that Mary and Daniel could change into their second, more formal, outfits.
Daniel changed into his boots and jeans, with a seafoam green shirt, and since he likes his hat and sunglasses so much, we did a few photos with them and a few without. Mary put on a yellow and blue floral dress, which was perfect for the scenery around us at the resort!
We took some photos inside to stay cool and then shuttled up to the Shooting Club for more pictures. Mary walked me through how everything would be set up for the wedding. None of us were in a hurry since the sun was still high. The area didn’t offer much shade, so we waited for sunset to really begin taking photos in earnest!
The beautiful mountain views and the smiles Mary and Daniel gave me made dealing with any difficulties with the sun completely worthwhile! We ended our session with close ups of the two rings, and then shuttled back to the resort and said our goodbyes until December and their wedding!
