Regina and Chad are long-time clients, and personal friends who needed me for Northern Virginia newborn photography. We photographed their engagement, wedding, and maternity session together! Over the years we’ve shared a lot of baby pictures, and family portrait sessions as well, and now their newest kiddo, Waylon Charles, gets his turn behind the camera!
Northern Virginia Newborn Photography Session
The family kept their outfits nice, but casual for this Northern Virginia newborn photography session. They chose white and khaki colors for the summer, and Chad wore a hat over his long, braided hair. The boys started with matching “big brother/little brother” shirts.
Taking Pictures of the Boys
The baby wasn’t quite ready when I got to the session, so Regina and I visited and caught up with each other. The main goal for the evening was to get some pictures of Waylon and his brother Levi. Though we called it a “newborn session”, Waylon was already two months old!
When we took Regina’s maternity photos, she warned me that Levi might not behave, but he was the perfect little subject during that session! This session we weren’t quite so lucky with the kiddos behaving, but we still got some great pictures of them!
As much as we coaxed, Levi refused to sit with his brother for pictures, so we got what photos we could of the two boys and moved on to the family pictures. He didn’t like those much either, but we tried a few things to get him to cooperate and hug his dad, or kiss his baby brother.
After an outfit change we went inside, to snap some photos of Waylon in the nursery. He didn’t want to sleep for us, and wouldn’t sleep without a bottle and his pacifier. We got some photos regardless, and they turned out quite nice!
Spending Time With Levi
While Regina fed the baby, Levi and I sat on the couch and watched Shrek. We also spent some time talking and looking at the photos on their wall. We looked over their wedding, engagement, maternity, and family photos. It was truly an honor to see the pictures this family and I took together hanging on their wall.
Bonding with Levi, even while we weren’t taking pictures, was so special and my hope is that, in the future, when we do photos together again, he’ll have those memories with me!
Bonding With The Family
I know Regina was a bit frustrated that the boys weren’t cooperating like we wanted, but the Northern Virginia newborn photography we did capture was great. I was able to show her some back-of-the-camera pictures where everyone was looking, and there were more than she had thought, which made her happy.
It was a perfect evening, cool and fresh and we closed out the session chatting together and talking about various aspects of life with a new baby in the house.
This session was a perfect mixture of hanging out and taking pictures! Clients who keep up with me not only professionally, but personally are so special to me, and I’m grateful to Regina, Chad, and their kiddos for making me a part of their family life!
