I recently had the chance to be Antonio + Peggy’s engagement photographer. They were referred to me by another client and good friend of mine, Rebecca Frakes. Rebecca owns and operates White Oak Lavender Farm in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
When planning their wedding, Antonio + Peggy wanted to choose a pretty but central location that was easy for all of their out of town guests attending. White Oak Lavender Farm was the perfect place! Not only are they going to be getting married here in the fall, but they decided the farm would be a great location for their engagement session as well!
Just an Engagement Photographer Catching the Blooms
Peggy and Antonio both wanted to feature the lavender fields in their photos, so we planned their engagement session to catch the blooming window in late June, early July. It turned out that we scheduled it just right. The day was bright, sunny, and a bit warm, but the lavender made them both so happy that we hardly noticed the little extra heat!
They started with more casual outfits consisting of just khakis and t-shirts for the first pictures. But later Peggy would switch into a purple dress she brought that we just knew would look perfect with the lavender as a backdrop.
I loved getting to know them more as we took their photos. We worked from the top of the farm down, exploring the beautiful mountain top sights, the vineyards, the lavender patches, the pond, around the gazebo and even through the labyrinth! We even got to take pictures among the “discovery area” where guests can learn all about the plants and animals around the property.
Shady Spots for Sunny Day Pictures
We traveled from one shady spot to another since the day was so sunny, finding nooks among the vines and Spanish moss which gave us some lovely shade and lovelier pictures! The flowers wouldn’t be around come their wedding in the fall so we wanted to feature those as much as possible! I made sure to capture their rings on the lavender bushes and got pictures of them holding hands amongst the flowers too.
While Peggy went to change into her purple dress, Antonio and I chatted a bit. We talked all about their kids and more about their plans for the wedding. I learned that they would be getting married under the gazebo on the property! So of course, we had to get more pictures there!
Among the Lavender
Peggy and Antonio – I had the best time being your engagement photographer! There was so much laughter and fun brought by the two of you making it absolutely lovely to work with you. You’re both naturals in front of the camera and your love shows through each and every photo!
Special thanks to Rebecca for her referral, and to White Oak Lavender Farm for the use of their facility! And thank you Peggy and Antonio for allowing me to capture your engagement photos. I can’t wait to do the same for your wedding come fall!
