Sam Shickel is the brother of a past senior client of mine, Molly Shickel. Though Sam’s senior photoshoot got a bit rainy, we still got some great pictures! We initially met at Turner Ashby High School in Bridgewater VA to start taking photos.
The session started out windy. We do our best to factor in the weather/elements when planning sessions but sometimes mother nature decides to throw a challenge at us. Sam has some great hair, which isn’t usually a big issue when photographing men, but the wind and his hair didn’t exactly get along! However, we made the best of it and had some fun getting the wind-blown look and some pictures of him running his fingers through his hair. I LOVE using the school’s field to show off school spirit
The storms circled the football field at Sam’s school, so we went to a close-by campus to escape the rain. Sam was able to change wardrobe and we finally found a place tucked away from the wind. Away from the gusts we shot some photos with his football jersey as well as some more casual outfits that Sam put together himself!
The rain eventually caught up to us. Between the wind and the sprinkling, we decided to meet up at the Shickels’ house the next evening. It would be a follow-up to finish the session. We managed to snap some photos with the rest of the outfits we had planned.
We shot some fun and sharable pic of Sam with his car, trendy jean jacket and sunglasses. I’m in love with these photos because he pulled off so many of the photos not looking at the camera but dramatically staring off into the distance!
For Sam’s graduation announcement I tried something new: digital graduation announcements! His session was late in the Spring, so it didn’t make sense to send out formal invites. This was the perfect opportunity to try out digital invitations, which I had been wanting to add to my portfolio of senior products. I think they’ll make a great add on to the beautiful paper versions I love creating for seniors every Spring!

Sam’s rainy senior photoshoot was a fantastic time! He is such an incredible young man, and a natural model in front of the camera! He showed off some great skills whether he was looking off into the distance or casually walking, giving us a “Lifestyle magazine” sort of look. It was also great to capture some more posed pictures for mom and grandma. This senior session was phenomenal, and I’m glad I got to capture Sam’s send-off from his high school career and on to new horizons!
